Why I give to Bay Shore:
As a child, I went to summer camp at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center (LOMC) in Oregon, Illinois. They had all sorts of different program themes you could choose from equestrian to swimming to arts & crafts. If you know me, it will not surprise you that I always went during the junior choir themed weeks. We prepared several pieces during the week and then sang a concert for our parents on the night they came to pick us up. We also sang camp songs throughout the week while we were hiking or just sitting around campfires. One of the songs that stands out to me was “We Love Because God First Loved Us.” A catchy tune. Throw in the random bits of clapping, and I’m right back at camp.
We do love because we first were first loved by God. We know how to love because of the love shown by Jesus. Jesus showed us his love in so many ways. He showed us how to love by serving others. He showed us how to love by taking care of others. And because of his model, I love by serving others and taking care of others. One way that I do this is by giving of my talents by showing off some of the singing skills I honed at LOMC. Another way I do this is by giving money to places that are doing God’s work, like here at Bay Shore. I know that my money is helping not only to run this building and provide for our excellent staff but that my money is also going toward broader ministries throughout the ELCA.
