Council & Committees
Church Council
Bay Shore’s Council is the leadership arm of the church which helps with governance and operations, including:
- Reviewing procedures and programs to ensure that Bay Shore’s purposes, policies and objectives are being fulfilled.
- Serving as legally binding lay leadership for our church
- Acting on proposals, resolutions and policies
- Shaping relationships between our church and external church partners and organization
- Submitting and reviewing budget proposals
- Arranging the processes for all elections as specified in the ELCA’s constitution
- Establishing committees and nominating or electing members as necessary to carry out functions assigned to the Church Council.
Our nominating committee selects individuals for the council each November. Elections are held in December.
Ministries
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 says “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.”
We have a variety of different ministries at Bay Shore Lutheran Church that allow our congregation to find ways we can serve God.
Committees
Building and Grounds
It’s important to maintain and update the infrastructure and surrounding church property. If you like doing small repairs, maintenance and evaluations–this team could use your experience!
Outreach
It’s important to connect with prospective and new members. This committee is responsible for building relationships and marketing the value of our church to current and prospective members. This includes activities like developing the directory, greeting congregation at worship, building and maintaining the church website and social media channels.
Stewardship
Members of Bay Shore see themselves as ever-growing into their faith, and an important part of that growth is giving–money, time, and creativity. Our offerings are a hugely important way we are the presence of God in the world! The Stewardship committee devotes most of its energy inspiring the members to pledge their financial resources to Bay Shore’s ministries that bring healing to the world and bring us closer to God. We acknowledge that we could not do our work here in the community and world without support from our members and special friends. At any time, you may click on the GIVE button in the upper right hand corner to make a donation of support for Bay Shore.
Fellowship
Cross generational activities and gatherings are important for the sustainability of a church community. By giving people of all ages the opportunity to grow in their faith individually, in addition to growing in community with others, fellowship allows the entire church to flourish. This committee plans and hosts many events throughout the year to provide a fun way to meet new people and to care for God’s creation. Making connections by working together, laughing together, and even eating together, encourages fellowship and makes Bay Shore even stronger.
