Grace to you and peace on this Good Friday, beloved Bay Shore.
Is Good Friday “good?” It is when you know the ending of the story.
In truth, we journey through Holy Week, knowing the end of the story. Good Friday is good because we know–Easter has come, Easter is coming. This year, it’s just different than what we have ever had before.
Is our current situation ideal? No. It’s not. But neither was it ideal for the believers that first Easter morning.
A fellow pastor tweeted this week, “The first Easter didn’t happen at a church. It happened outside of an empty tomb, while all the disciples were sequestered in a home, grief-stricken and wondering what was going on. So, we’re all going to be keeping things pretty Biblical this #Easter.”
Oh, I like this thought. Perhaps we are celebrating Easter more like the first Easter than ever before. Think about it. Are your doors locked? Are you in your home, perhaps in fear? Are you grieving the loss of what you had before, and wondering what you will have again?
I don’t know about you, but this year–this year most of all–I need Easter. I need to know that resurrection, new life, is ahead of us. I need to know that we will be released and be new in a different way. Let’s remember this: the majority of the first believers never saw an empty tomb. They heard about it from others, after they opened their doors. Don’t you feel more like them now than you did, say, last year?
I pray that you and your loved ones celebrate Easter as the Body of Christ, wherever you are, this Sunday at 10 a.m. with us online. I pray that you feel a connection to the resurrection in a new way, having lived through our last few weeks. We may NOT know the ending of this story, but we know God is with us, we know the tomb was empty, and we know that Christ has overcome death so that we may live.
Believe in this good news and be at peace.
Blessings always to you and your loved ones,
