Fifth Sunday in Lent
Gather by Rose McLarney
Some springs, apples bloom too soon.
The trees have grown here for a hundred years and are still quick
to trust that the frost has finished.
Some springs, pink petals turn black.
Those summers, the orchards are empty and quiet.
No reason for the bees to come.
Other summers, red apples beat hearty in the trees, golden apples
glow in sheer skin. Their weight breaks branches,
the ground rolls with apples, and you fall in fruit.
You could say, I have been foolish. You could say, I have been fooled.
You could say, some years, there are apples.

Ways to Connect and Share
Our Outreach Committee has created a survey that we would like our fellow Bay Shore friends to complete. It is a short, 10 question survey regarding our current virtual offerings and modes of communication. Thank you for your help in advance. The survey can be found here. The survey will be open until March 30.

The Troubling the Waters study group will meet one final time on Thursday, March 25. We encourage anyone and everyone who attended at least one session to participate in the discussion of action steps for Bay Shore and vision where God may be calling us to serve in our neighborhood and broader community. Please plan to join us on March 25.
The next Soup’R Books gathering will be held on Sunday, May 2. We will continue to meet via Zoom at 4:00pm. The upcoming book is Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. Do any of you relate to being a teenager in the 1960s? If so, this book will bring back lots of memories. Read about one boy’s surprising journey through a summer of loss and insight. The importance of church, faith, and friendship arise in this novel. Everyone is invited to participate in Bay Shore’s book group. If you enjoy reading and discussing books, please join us! Ways to Serve and Give
Help provide a meal to a Hephatha Lutheran family this Easter. Baskets of food will not be possible due to the pandemic again this year. Instead, the Social Ministry Committee is collecting funds for Walmart gift cards to be delivered to families of confirmation students. The goal is $2,000 to provide gift cards for 20 families. Send your donations to Bay Shore Lutheran indicating that it is for the Easter baskets. Drivers are also needed to deliver the gift cards in baskets with Easter activities being prepared by Kids Impacting Communities and Once Upon a Preschool. Thank you!!
You have heard my complaints, my impatience.
Sometimes I become frightened
when I move away from you.
Guide my heart back to you.
Help me to think beyond my own wants
and to desire only to do you will.
Thank you for the many blessings in my life
and for the ways I feel your presence. Amen
